So Kate has been unwell for months with constant ear infections thus on going treatment with anit biotics. Last week Kate had an ear infection puss/swollen eyes and a very annoying cough that made her vomit. I had her at the doctors and they referred us to the ENT specialist.
So today we had an appointment with the ENT specialist. He checked her over and told us that she definitely needed grommet's. Money bags (Dave) quick to ask how much?? The specialist wrote the quote: just grommets $1500 however she may need her adenoids removed that will cost approx $2500. Dave calculator works over time!!!! Dave asked could we go via the public system? Specialist: of course let me find out when we could schedule her in ....................... We could see her April/May next year. I frown at Dave and shake my head nooooooooooooooo. Dave then asks if we went private how soon would Kate have to wait???? Specialist replies yep no problem we could do her next week.
Unbelievable how money talks in the health sector. I am somewhat grateful that both Dave and I work and that we are able to afford the surgery. I feel for those families who children suffer and have to wait its just not good enough!!!!
So Kate has her surgery next Thursday and I really hope she starts to get better. I'm so OVER IT!!! and I'm sure Kate is too.

At first I thought this post was about you making your blog private, and I was going to be irritated.
I'm sorry Kate has had such a hard time. I'm very interested in your perspective of the NZ healthcare system. Six months is a long time to wait, especially if it is for your baby. (Maybe if it was for you or Dave you could tough it out?) I don't want any Americans to read this, or they will think moving to a public system is the worst thing in the world. There are already plenty of scare-tactics going on, and it kills me. America's system needs reform so desperately.
